Our Mission: Redefining Waste,
Creating Value, Supporting Communities
South Africa’s waste problem is more than an environmental issue; it affects communities, threatens ecosystems, and hinders economic growth. We set out to address this by turning waste into valuable resources, creating local jobs, and providing sustainable products that benefit the entire community.
In 2018, South Africa generated 58 million tons of waste, recovering an impressive (by world standards) 34% of that waste for intended recycling. Of that 34% only 30% was recycled. The rest was disposed of in landfills, (65%) rivers and the ocean (35% equaling 13.6 million tons – both of which pollute the environment and harm local communities.
As these landfills fill up more are required, which left unaddressed, will cause further harm. We launched Waste to Fuel Technologies with a mission to transform waste management, turning trash into fuels and fertilizers that bring long-lasting value to communities.
Our unique SNAPSEP™ technology separates and processes waste in a way that conventional methods cannot. Developed by our sister company Rooikat Recycling, SNAPSEP™ (Separate and Process) is designed to sort and convert mixed solid waste, including dirty and contaminated materials, into useful fuel. Unlike traditional recyclers who need clean, sorted waste, SNAPSEP™ thrives in real-world conditions, handling various waste types and creating valuable products in efficient facilities. By chemically recycling plastics and other organics, SNAPSEP™ produces clean fuel alternatives, creating new possibilities for waste management.
Our sister company, Rooikat Recycling, plays an essential role in our journey. With extensive expertise in waste management, Rooikat has pioneered the SNAPSEP™ technology and operates a pilot plant to test and improve our processes. Together, we’re working to expand this technology to larger facilities that can address South Africa’s waste issues at scale.
